mate i dont understand how this site makes money, why would companies wanna pay for a small little space where u can harder see what the company is about? and who goes on this to find what they want, i don't get it. can you run this by me please coup cause i feel stupid!!!
It is because it is a unique idea - it has had millions of hits a week - which means the chance of your site getting hit through it are bigger - and advertising for a $1 per pixel is not a lot so why not do it.....it is the same reasoning that advertising anywhere happens just on a microenvironment on a macro scale

basically it is to do with a companies exposure - in the web the best way to be found on search engines is to be linked to in loads of other sites, and the more links means people have more chance to get to your site and spend money etc... it is not geek language - it's called a education
